BOARS HEAD THISTLE DECIDE TO RESIGN FROM THE LEAGUE
Boars Head Thistle have sadly decided to resign from the BFSFA and cease to exist with immediate effect. Over the years the club has been the most successful in Lancashire and no doubt a lot further afield winning trophies from 1992 right up until this season when we won the treble and we were seven times finalists in the LFA Sunday Trophy, winning the trophy on four occasions. At the end of the day football is all about the players, and we had no less than seven players declaring they were either retiring or not playing Sunday football next season, even with our recruitment record replacing seven players is nigh on an impossibility so the decision was an easy one to make. We would like to place on record our thanks to everyone that has been involved with the club over the years either as a player, official or a supporter and wish you all the very best for the future.
BOARS WIN GLEDHILL CUP AT BLOOMFIELD ROAD
Boars won an amazing treble tonight by overcoming close rivals Blackhurst Budd 2-1 in the Gledhill final with goals from Michael Clark and Scott Thompson. Boars dominated the first half and should really have been home and dry by half time, but Budd came back strongly in the second half, but were halted by Boars outstanding defence who saw us home to reclaim the coveted trophy. Well done to all the lads on a well deserved victory.
CUP DOUBLE SECURED AT FLEETWOOD TODAY
Boars lifted their second trophy of the season by defeating A+P Autos 5-3 at Fleetwood today. Phil Smith put us 1-0 up by half time and we added a second early in the second half when Kurt Bradley found the net, A+P pulled one back before we added further goals by Ryan Tanser, Luke Noble and Lee Catlow. With the game won we got a bit sloppy and A+P acored two late goals but by then the game was over and the second trophy of the season secured. Lee Catlow got the MOM award with a superb display but Kurt Bradley was not far behind as he controlled midfield with a faultless performance.
BOARS HEAD CROWNED LANCASHIRE CHAMPIONS
Boars Head were crowned Lancashire Champions for the fourth time in their history by beating Preston side Ingol Rangers at the County ground tonight. Ingol started the stronger and it was no surprise when following a corner Jonty McDonald fired them in to the lead on 27 minutes and they took that lead in to half time. The second half was a total different story, Boars seemed like a team possessed and were first to everything, and it came as no surprise when Michael Clark's corner was nodded in by skipper Phil Thompson at the far post to level matters. After that there appeared to be only one winner as Boars piled on the pressure and Ingol were hanging on, then to everyone's astonishment the referee felt Antony Pearson's strong challenge on an Ingol midfielder worthy of a red card, and this lifted Ingol and they started to get back in to the game forcing a great double save from Boars Head keeper Ben Fletcher. With the seconds ticking by and penalties looming, Michael Clark picked up the ball in the 93rd minute and guided a superb pass to the pacy Luke Noble who raced through and slotted it past the oncoming keeper in to the far corner for a dramatic late winner, seconds later the ref blew for time and we were crowned Lancashire Champions once again. What a brilliant night for everyone involved at the club.
BOARS HEAD IN EMOTIONAL LANCASHIRE CUP VICTORY
Boars Head stormed in to the LFA quarter final by hammering unbeaten Wigan side Highfield Grange 5-0 at School Rd today in a faultless display by the Champions. In a game where the Boars lads had their emotions running high due to the news of Jordan Spedding's illness, every single player showed so much grit and determination to deliver a victory and dedicate it to Jordan. After a lot of early pressure on the Highfield goal, a fabulous move was converted by Scott Thompson after 18 mins to give us the lead and soon after Adam Sharrocks calmly slotted home a loose ball at a corner for 2-0. Boars made it 3-0 on the stroke of half time, Antony Pearson converting Michael Clark's free kick. Second half goals from Ryan Tanzer and a rare right foot drive from centre half Chris Morris completed the scoring as Boars sent a message out to the rest of the county that they will take some stopping this season.
